The Lleida Prosecutor’s Office requests a twelve-year prison sentence for a man accused of raping and forcing his partner to undress to record her on video. The events took place in 2021 in the Pla d’Urgell region. The trial is scheduled to be held on Thursday of next week at the Court.

According to the indictment from the Public Ministry, the man repeatedly threatened his partner with attacking her if she did not agree to his sexual requests and allowed herself to be filmed naked. On one of the occasions, he allegedly even left her abandoned in a field. Thus, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, the woman, out of fear of the man and against her will, undressed and agreed to have sexual relations. The Public Ministry considers that the accused is the author of a continuing crime of sexual assault, a continuing crime of coercion and a crime of abuse. Thus, he requests a sentence of twelve years in prison – ten for the rapes, one for coercion and another for mistreatment -, another eight years of supervised freedom, six years without being able to work with minors, four years of prohibition on possessing weapons and a restraining order of one year longer than the sentence imposed. It also requests that he compensate the complainant with 10,000 euros for the moral damages caused. On the other hand, it is worth remembering that the court on duty on Saturday decreed provisional prison without bail for the 21-year-old who was arrested on Friday accused of sexually assaulting a pregnant woman in the middle of the street (as SEGRE reported). The judge agreed to this measure after the Prosecutor’s Office requested it. This is a man who would have a police record for similar acts. The suspect was arrested by an off-duty Urbana officer. It happened around 11:00 a.m. in Pont Vell when a young man approached a woman and touched her genitals.

Lleida registered 268 sexual crimes in 2023, 36% more than in 2022

■ Last year, the police forces registered 268 cases of crimes against sexual freedom in the district, which represents an increase of 36% compared to 2022, when there were 197, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, in which the cases of the province and the capital. That is, 71 more cases and an average of 5.1 cases per week. Of these, 105 were violations compared to the 77 recorded in 2022 (36.4% more). In Lleida city there were 130 cases, which represents an increase of 58.5% from 2022. Likewise, 51 of them were rapes (up from 37 in 2022). One of the reasons that explains this increase in data, according to experts, is that there is increasing awareness when it comes to reporting. One in three victims were girls or adolescents.
