For his part, José Antonio Carrasco, who is defending Eugenio D., – in prison since his arrest in September 2020 – maintains that Manuela Chavero’s death was accidental, which is why he requests the acquittal of his client.

The facts, according to the prosecution

According to the public prosecutor’s account, in the early hours of July 5, 2016, around 2:15 a.m., the accused, who was 23 years old at the time, went to the home of Manuela Chavero, who was alone inside. After starting a conversation with her – they had both known each other for many years – He convinced her to accompany him to a house owned by his family.about 80 meters from the victim’s, with the “excuse” to return a crib that he had lent him for the daughter of some friends who had visited him a year before.

Manuela left her house to pick up the crib, with the intention of returning immediately, since she left the light in the living room, the kitchen and the television on and she did not take her cell phone or the keys, but instead took others that were next to her. to the door.

Once at the house of Eugenio D., the accused He approached her “sexually” and then hit her several times “with the aim of causing her death”. Later, he transported her body in a vehicle to the farm where he buried her. The body remained in this place until September 18, 2020, after the young man was detained by agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard. Two days later, Eugenio D. entered, as the alleged perpetrator of Manuela’s death.
