The legendary Punta Umbria beach of El Portil has recently been the sad protagonist due to the closure of many of its accesses, due to their great deterioration due to recent storms. Therefore, this summer, due to the obvious lack of sand and the few open accesses, it will be quite a challenge to reach different sections of this much-loved beach in Huelva.

El Portil is that beach that has always been familiar and welcoming, with calm waters and pleasant temperatures, almost a kilometer of sand nestled in an environment full of nature, between the Laguna del Portil Natural Reserve, the Los Enebrales Natural Area and the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park and in front of the wild beach of Flecha del Rompido.

We wanted to look back at the Portil from almost 30 years ago, recovering its appearance at the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s, when its appearance was quite different from today. We also recover some comparative images from the Facebook page Portileños Neighborhood Associationwhere the differences between 2005 and 2020 can be perfectly appreciated, dreaming that one day this beloved Huelva beach will once again be what it was.
