The photo that captures what is happening in Murcia and that terrifies all of Spain

The Region of Murcia has always been recognized for its warm and pleasant Mediterranean climate but, in recent times, it is experiencing a series of unprecedented thermal anomalies due to climate change that are making the Spanish southeast one of the areas most affected by the emergency.

During the last months of spring, the people of Murcia have been witnesses of the unusual temperatures which are more similar to those typical of the summer months than to those usual for March and April; a phenomenon that is interspersed with the cold and rainy days.

Concern among Murcians about the thermal difference

A common complaint in this context among the citizens of the Region of Murcia is the disconcerting thermal difference between mornings and nights: a disparity that causes many people to find themselves at midday with clothing completely inadequate for the temperatures they suffer and that leaves the population in a constant dilemma about what outfit choose to go to work.

-

This obvious concern of the people of Murcia has permeated social networks, where concerned citizens have expressed their growing concern in the most diverse ways: some with serious reflections on the climate emergency and others with hilarious jokes.

Among the various publications on the subject, one has captured the interest of the public outside the Murcian borders: a meme recently shared by the ‘Murcia Notifications’ account that perfectly portrays what it is what happens with the climate in the Community.

The image, which portrays “the weather in Murcia” in an ingenious wayshows a typical granite countertop with the process of preparing an exotic chorizo and cocoa cream sandwich. However, beyond the comedy, the meme has become a symbol of the current conversation that is taking place in the region about the unusual weather conditions and their impacts on the daily lives of the inhabitants.
