This Sunday, May 5, the most central streets of Ourense will be filled with dozens of hand-made plant sculptures to celebrate the traditional festival of The Maios. The festival declared of tourist interest in Galicia will surely provide a day of fun for residents of Ourense and tourists.

On the occasion of this celebration, The Region has announced the Maios 2024 Awards, in which the three best maios will be awarded, chosen by a jury made up of experts from Ourense culture such as Afonso Vázquez Monxardín, José Paz and Maribel Outeiriño. “The maios were defined very well by Florentino Cuevillas. They are a tribute to the Creator of the earth, to the flowers and the seasons,” says Maribel Outeriño, judge of the contest in reference to this popular festival. Another member of the jury, Afonso Vázquez, expresses himself along the same lines: “It is a festival common to all of Europe, but in Ourense it has special vitality.”

How to take part?

To participate In the contest, those interested must fill out the form that they will find at the web address or through the QR code that appears at the end of this news. The people, schools or associations that Fill out the form before Saturday, May 4 at 12:00 p.m.. Entries received through any means other than those specified above will not be accepted.

The contest will feature a single generic category, in which the participating Maios will compete for three prizes. The winning participant will be chosen by the jury among all the maios registered and exhibited on Paseo street, on Sunday, May 5.


Excellent prizes

The winners of the contest will be able to take home one of these succulent prizes.

  1. He first prize It will consist of a voucher of 750 euros to be exchanged at the Bermello appliance store.
  2. He second prize It will consist of a 400 euro voucher to use on Coren products.
  3. He Third award It will also be redeemable for Coren products and the amount will be 300 euros.

Besides, all maios registered and exhibitedthey will receive a 100 euro voucher to redeem for Coren products.

The Region invites fans of the Maios and popular culture to participate in this contest to contribute to the promotion and conservation of one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the city of Ourense.
