It is not usual for me to address you through a letter. However, the seriousness of the events that my fellow citizens and I have been suffering and the need to give a calm response, They make me think that this is the best way to express my opinion.

I thank you, first of all, for taking a little of your time to read these lines. As you already know, and if I don’t inform you, In Huelva we have been demanding a high-speed rail with the neighboring province of Seville for more than thirty years. Three decades of empty promises, fake news, hoaxes and nonsense on the part of political and government representatives of his party, the PSOE, and the current opposition, the PP, who have deceived us ever since with unfinished feasibility studies, phantom tenders and seasons of lies.

From what it seems, now your Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente, believes that the AVE to Huelva is a “bestial” investment that for “ten minutes” is not worth it. The minister does not mention that many other high-speed projects launched in the country have had radically more brutal costs, nor that the savings in terms of time is not ten minutes, but many more.

Nor am I surprised by the overacting of their acolytes from here nor that of those who swarm around Madrid at the expense of our votes, who have wanted to mislead us with spurious information, more typical of a constellation of ultra-conservative newspapers than of left-wing political representatives, pretending as if a report from viability in which its profitability, not only economic, but also social, is very clear.

-

It may be that, in your opinion, the media, institutions, companies, associations and social movements that demand that this absolute contempt for Huelva cease have a marked right-wing orientation and far-rightbut you will understand that the people of Huelva defend our right to equal treatment with respect to the rest of the country, and that we will do everything that is required of us to stop this strategy of harassment and demolition that has been perpetrated for decades, I repeat, with the complicity or direct action of the two parties that have governed Spain.

In this outrage, as serious as it is crude, both are necessary collaborators to try to make us falter in our efforts to live in a country in which we all have the same rights wherever we live. Where we are not discriminated against or mistreated with such impunity.

I’m not an naive. I am aware that it is not easy to put an end to what the great Italian writer Umberto Eco called “the mud machine”, that is, trying to delegitimize our just claims with data that is as scandalous as it is false. At this point, the question I legitimately ask myself is, is it worth continuing? Sincerely I dont know. This last grievance is unprecedented, it is so serious and so gross that I need to stop and reflect. We often forget that behind data and political interests there are people. And I, it doesn’t cause me shame to say it, I am a man deeply in love with my people, of a province that lives helplessly with the mud that is spread over it one day in and the next. I think that we Huelva residents need to reflect and decide which path to take. On May 9 we will appear before you and whoever wants to listen to us and we will make known our decision, which will certainly not be a full stop, but the full stop. We Huelva residents will say, once and for all, that this is over.
