Bilbao is filled with Basque dances in spring – Bilbao

He Bilbao City Council has prepared a spring full of Basque folklore thanks to the performances scheduled within “Dantza Plazetan”.

They can be enjoyed for free in the various streets pilgrimages, displays of dances and parades of giants with the aim of bringing, promoting and highlighting Basque dances and folklore.

The Dance of the Era returns

With “Dantza Plazetan”, throughout the year the town’s squares and streets receive one of the most traditional cultural programs in Bilbao. Likewise, the celebration of the Bilbao Era Dance – Larrain Dantza, another traditional event that Gaztedi Dantzari Taldea will revitalize again. This meeting has been held since 2011. As a novelty, the event will be this year on Saturday, May 18, at 8:00 p.m. at the Campa de los Ingleses Pier, next to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

The rest of the groups that will fill the corners of Bilbao with folklore will be: Bihotz Alai Dantza Taldea, Batasuna Arraizbide Dantza Taldea, Ondalan Erraldoien Konpartsa, Salbatzaile Dantza Taldea, Bizkaiko Dantzarien Biltzarra, Beti Jai Alai Dantzari Taldea, Deustuko Folklore Taldeak and Ibai Arte Dantza Taldea.


The first of these spring events will be Wednesday, May 1, at 12:00 p.m., in Elorrieta. Bihotz Alai Dantza Taldea will offer a display of dances.

He Saturday, May 11, Arangoiti will host the 1:00 p.m. another boast from the same group, while at 7:00 p.m. Batasuna Arraizbide Dantza Taldea will hold a pilgrimage in the courtyard of the Uretamendi Municipal Center.

He Saturday, May 25, at 11:30 a.m. A parade of giants is scheduled in Ibarrekolanda, led by Ondalan Erraldoien Konpartsa. That same day at 8:00 p.m. in Plaza Santiago Salbatzaile Dantza Taldea will offer a pilgrimage.

He Sunday, May 26a kalejira will take place by Gaztedi Dantzari Taldea starting at 12:30 p.m. in Solokoetxe.


The day June 2, Sundaythe Bihotz Alai Dantza Taldea dance display is scheduled at 12:00 hours in Ibarrekolanda.

He Saturday, June 8a new pilgrimage offered by Bizkaiko Dantzarien Biltzarra will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. in Plaza Indautxu.

He Sunday, June 9Basurto station street will host the 1:00 p.m. a display of children’s dances from the neighborhood group, Beti Jai Alai Dantzari Taldea.

He June 23, Sunday, three pilgrimages will take place. The first two at 8:00 p.m., one in the Plaza San Pedro de Deusto, by Deustuko Folklore Taldeak, and another on the street of the Basurto station, offered by Beti Jai Alai Dantzari Taldea. At 9:00 p.m. Plaza Karmelo in Santutxu will host the Gaztedi Dantzari Taldea pilgrimage. Furthermore, at 9:15 p.m. A display of dances by Ibai Arte Dantza Taldea will begin in the Zorrotza Fair Park.

He Thursday, June 27, starting at 6:00 p.m.a parade of giants will take place in the Ribera de Deusto, organized by Ondalan Erraldoien Konpartsa.

He Friday, June 28, will be held at 7:00 p.m. a display of dances in Deustuibarra, led by Bihotz Alai Dantza Taldea.

And finally, the Saturday June 29 Plaza Santiago will host from 8:00 p.m. the Salbatzaile Dantza Taldea pilgrimage in the Plaza Santiago in the Old Town.
