Government crisis at UVigo mid-termRicardo Grobas

Unexpected government crisis at the of Vigo. The rector, Manuel Reigosaannounced late this Tuesday afternoon the remodeling of his government team, changes that are coming, he assured, with the aim of “gain momentum with new people” and “gain speed” to face his last two years of mandate at the head of the institution.

The renewal of the team represents the return to the UVigo government team of thehistoric professor José Cidrás, who will take over the vice-rector’s office for Planning and Sustainability, which until now was handled by José Luis Míguez Tavarés. Martín López Nores also enters as the new head of Teaching Staff and Academic Organization, replacing Patricia Valcárcel.

Additionally, according to the university, the changes include the disappearance of the vice-chancellor’s office of Welfare, Equity and Diversity, directed by María Isabel Doval. In this case, Reigosa explained that the competitions related to diversity, an important commitment of his team, will become depend on the rector himself, who will lead the launch of a future office that will deal with these issues, as is the case with everything related to equality. Regarding the area of well-being, these powers will become dependent on the vice-rector’s office for University Extension directed by Susana Reboreda.

Manuel Reigosa took the opportunity to thank all the effort and dedication of the three vice-rectors who are leaving office in this new stage.

Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Cidrás has a long professional career, both in the academic field and in university management. Director of the Telephone Chair at UVigo, he has held different positions of responsibility, both at the Industrial Enxeñería School, of which he was director, as well as in the government team, where he had already served as vice-rector of Planning during Alberto Gago’s time as rector.

Book of the Social Council

Martín López Nores, for his part, served as director of the Teaching Innovation Area until last January, when he began to hold the position of deputy to the rector for Dixitalization, a position held until a few months ago by José Juan Pazos Arias, who died on last December, and who will receive a tribute next Thursday.

Carrying out an international stay marks a before and after in the lives of students and the opinion they have for their respective universities of origin is the best testimony that can motivate students to choose or not to choose UVigo as a destination. Aware of this reality and the importance of internationalization for the University, the Social Council has just published a study that analyzes the evaluations of these students, who above all appreciate the activities that are organized for them, including cultural ones.
