Jazz reaches Vicente Halconero Square in the Schamann neighborhood

The concert will be this Saturday, May 4, between 11 and 12:30 p.m., and will be performed by the band ‘José Vera Bello Cuarteto’, with a repertoire of songs characterized by improvisation and the fusion of genres.

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, through the Ciudad Alta District Department, continues with the programming of cultural activities, children’s activities and activities for adults that are taking place in the Vicente Halconero square in the Schamann neighborhood.

The events resume this coming Saturday, May 4, between 11 and 12:30 p.m., with a jazz concert by the band ‘José Vera Bello Cuarteto’. The group of the composer and saxophonist from Gran Canaria will offer a repertoire of songs characterized by improvisation and the fusion of a wide variety of musical genres.

The councilor of the Ciudad Alta District, Adrián Santana, has highlighted the commitment of the Government group “in promoting culture and encounters in our city. The program of activities that we are developing in the emblematic Vicente Halconero square offers options for all tastes and ages”, while highlighting the fact that “the many cultural and revitalization proposals that we are bringing to the city, and to Vicente Halconero Square in particular. Initiatives that not only serve to revitalize the neighborhood, but also to promote. coexistence between the neighbors of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria”.

Vicente Halconero Square, located between Pedro Infinito and Zaragoza streets, was rehabilitated last summer to respond to a historic neighborhood demand. Thus, the Department of Roads and Works proceeded with the construction of a wall and an exterior fence, in addition to the installation of an access door from Pedro Infinito Street in order to guarantee its correct use.

Art and culture in Ciudad Alta

Since the beginning of March, Vicente Halconero Square has developed a large number of activities with themes as varied as poetry recitals, children’s and adult activities, performances by a string quartet, and a puppet and marionette show.

Starting in June, the square will host a storytelling function for the girls and boys of the district: ‘Upside Down Stories’. During the summer months, the program will continue with magician Zapitto’s children’s show ‘El Espectáculo de Aníbal Mago’, on July 6, and the performance ‘Las Travesuras del Payaso Zapitto’, on August 3.

Finally, in the last quarter of the year, the citizens of the capital neighborhood will be able to enjoy the performance of the play ‘Families 13 y Martes’, on October 5; the performance of the gospel choir ‘M. Lou’, on November 2; and the musical activity with Christmas repertoire ‘Christmas En-sung’, on December 7.
