The mayor of Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, accompanied by the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo; the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, and the councilor for Festivals of the Chicharrero City Council, Javier Caraballero, in addition to other councilors of the Corporation and councilors of the Insular Institution, inaugurated this morning, in the García Sanabria park, the XLVII Regional Exhibition of , Plants and Traditional Canarian Craftswhich will remain open to the public from today until next Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m..

Bermúdez highlighted that “this is one of the reference events of the May Festival of Santa Cruz, to which thousands of people come every year not only to enjoy everything the fair has to offer, 72 stands make it up. this year, but also to make García Sanabria park the epicenter of our founding festivities” and added that “for this reason, the city is ready to show off its best clothes and here, in García Sanabria, the Fiestas of May”.

“Here,” explained the mayor, “we not only find flowers, plants, and good gastronomy, but also literature from the Book Fair, or of course, our Gorgoritos, and I say ours because they are already an indivisible part of our festivities. foundations and, of course, our most fond memories” and concluded by highlighting that “this Santa Cruz dresses up to celebrate its 530th anniversary, precisely when today we begin three frenetic days of activity, with the Magician’s tomorrow, and the Day of the on Friday, to which everyone is invited.”

The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, for his part, highlighted that “the founding festivities of Santa Cruz represent, like each edition, an opportunity to meet our cultural and artisan heritage, which is why this Regional Exhibition brings the best of all of the Canary Islands to a venue that is dressed in the most traditional of the Islands” and stressed that “this co-capital of the Archipelago becomes the center of attention these days for residents, visitors from other municipalities and islands, and also for tourism who is eager to learn about the culture, traditions and gastronomy of the land.”

Rosa Dávila, for her part, wanted to “congratulate Santa Cruz for these 530 years of its foundation and these festivities, so linked to the land and the flower and plant sector, remind me of when I was Councilor for Parks and Gardens ” and concluded by highlighting “the immense work it means for the artisans and the participants in the exhibition to bring the best of their work to this park, where when I was little my mother took me to see Los Gorgoritos, just as I did with my daughters ; In short, a García Sanabria that breathes tradition of the land everywhere. We can only congratulate the City Council and the participants for their dedication.”

It must be remembered that the program offered by the Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Canarian Crafts includes the capital’s Book Fair, organized by the Autonomous Organization of Culture. It will remain open to the public from today between Domingo Pérez Minik promenade (section from the Numancia kiosk to the central fountain)and the Marcos Guimerá Peraza walk.

As for the always-awaited performances of Gorgorito de “Maese Villarejo” and his animated dolls, the first of his performances took place today, at 12:00 p.m., in his usual location at the Flower Clock in the park, to which another will follow, this same afternoon, at 6:00 p.m., while tomorrow, Thursday, May 2, the show is brought forward to 11:00 a.m., and for Friday the 3rd, Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th they are repeated again two passes, at 12:00 and 18:00.

The Autonomous Organization for Festivals and Recreational Activities (OAFAR) has located a total of 72 booths distributed along the main walks of the park. Thus, 11 exhibitors have been arranged for the sale and exhibition of flowers and plants; 18 specialized in gastronomy products, and 43 in crafts.

On Friday, the 3rd, starting at 5:00 p.m., the Children’s Drawing and Painting Contest will take place, for children between 3 and 12 years old and whose prior registration with delivery of the works can be done at the exhibitor of the OAFAR in the park itself. The closing of the XLVII Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Canarian Crafts will be on Sunday, the 5th, at 7:30 p.m., coinciding with the awards ceremony for the Natural Flower Crosses Contest.

Folklore groups will entertain the five days of the fair in García Sanabria Park. The Verode group will display its musical repertoire starting this afternoon, at 5:00 p.m., while AF Idayra will do so at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, day 3, the Tajaraste group will tour the crosses starting at 12:00 p.m. to conclude their itinerary in the same park. For its part, the Jariguo group will perform at 5:00 p.m. and the AC Bienmesabe, at 7:00 p.m.
