SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, May 15. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The strike call by Iberia staff at the Santiago airport will take effect this Thursday, on the first of the two days of the strike, given that it will result in the cancellation of two connections with Madrid and one with Bilbao, in addition of return flights.

This has been confirmed to Europa Press by sources from the company’s UGT union section in the Galician capital, who have called for two days of strike – on the 16th and 17th, respectively – to denounce the “overload” of work due to ” lack of personnel” at the Lavacolla airport.

The union denounces that the situation is even “worsened further” by the closure of the Vigo airport and, therefore, by the diversion of workload to Santiago.

-

Specifically, the union argues that there are shifts that can even go from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with split days to attend to work peaks, which “seriously hinders the reconciliation of work and personal life” the workers.

Furthermore, it emphasizes that these “precarious conditions” affect the of Iberia workers in Santiago, with “very serious, both physical and psychological” risks.

UGT, which has also called a rally this Thursday for 12:00 p.m. at the Rosalía de Castro airport exits, emphasizes that it has been “reporting this situation in the company’s handling service” at the Compostela airport for some time, and that Iberia “hides itself behind a supposedly normal operation and remains silent in response.”
