Police arrest relative for auto driver’s murder | Kozhikode News

KOZHIKODE: Police arrested Dhanesh (33) for the murder of auto driver Sreekanth (47) at Panikkar Road near here at 5.45 am on Sunday. The arrested accused is also a Panikkar Road resident and a relative of the deceased. Sreekanth was found hacked to death near his car which was parked near his home. Sreekanth’s car that was parked in the area was set ablaze on Saturday morning and the murder happened when police were probing the arson case. Police had constituted an SIT to probe the arson and murder on the premise that both incidents were linked. They managed to identify and nab the accused within 36 hours after the murder and they caught the culprit by examining CCTV footage in the area.
Police said Sreekanth was an accused in Prabhuraj murder case and some other cases and they ruled out suspicions if his murder was linked to those cases. Police then focused their investigation to include those who had enmity with Sreekanth.
Police said Sreekanth had allegedly misbehaved with Dhanesh’s mother and he had set to the car of the deceased due to a grudge. Police said that Dhanesh had followed Sreekanth on Saturday and had seen him having liquor with a friend at the harbor that night. “He revisited the harbor at 3am to kill Sreekanth and waited for an opportunity as Sreekanth’s friends were also present at the spot. He followed the car of the deceased and hacked him when he stopped the vehicle to take some rest at Kannankadavu at 5.30am, “said police.
