Lucknow: Fire at a car workshop near a private hospital in Gomtinagar triggered panic on Tuesday afternoon. Although no one was injured, the blaze soon spread to an e-rickshaw shop next to the workshop. Two vehicles were destroyed in the workshop fire which was caused by a short circuit. The flames were so strong that the private hospital situated nearby was filled with smoke. “After receiving the information we immediately rushed a fire tender to the spot. Fire personnel managed to extinguish the blaze after some time,” said fire station officer Sushil Yadav. According to eyewitnesses, there was no water storage tank at the workshop. Heavy traffic also posed problems to the fire personnel but they reached the spot on time and caused the flames, they said, adding that the hospital administration, too. deployed the staff to douse the flames. “Without wasting any time we immediately started spraying water from our terrace. We also moved 25 patients from ICU which is on the top floor to the ground floor so that in case of emergency we could easily evacuate them,” said one of the hospital staff. He said that although the shops were built illegally no action was taken against them.
