Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), May 1 (EFE).- At least six people died this Wednesday and another seven were injured in southern Vietnam due to a strong explosion in a wood production factory, local media reported.

The explosion took place at 9:00 local time (2:00 GMT) at the Binh Minh Production Company factory, in Dong Nai province, and the first hypothesis suggests that it was caused by a malfunction in a boiler. according to the digital newspaper VnExpress.

Several witnesses told this media that the strong detonation caused the collapse of a part of the metal roof of the structure, in an accident that occurred on International Workers’ Day.

According to relatives of one of the victims, the boiler exploded about three minutes after workers finished repairing it.

“My team was working about 300 meters away and we saw the flames. Everyone started running in panic,” said a witness.

The injured are being treated at the nearby Thong Nhat hospital, which has mobilized all available personnel on a festive day in Vietnam as it is International Workers’ Day. EFE
