Nat Geo Day Tour Tickets: The Valley of the Orange Trees

-

Tour the majestic Serra de Tramontana, where you will find the fascinating city of Sóller, famous for its thriving orange groves. Here, a National Geographic-trained guide will explain the city’s past and how it came to be known as the Valley of the Orange Trees.

During the first stop, at the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences, a qualified biologist will accompany you on a visit to a private audiovisual room, where you will review photos that illustrate the history of orange groves and their impact on local businesses in Sóller. You’ll also learn more about the museum’s work to conserve plant species, unique ecosystems and natural habitats of the Balearic Islands. The botanical garden of Sóller contains the largest collection of floral specimens in the entire Balearic archipelago.

Continue outside to the lush grounds of this botanical garden to enjoy the garden and an extensive orangery. Among aromatic orange trees, you will study the botanical properties of the different varieties of citrus fruits and you will visit the seed bank exclusively. Sitting in the vibrant gardens, you’ll sample a simple citrus dessert while attending a cooking demonstration.

Afterwards, you will walk through the city center of Sóller until you reach Sa Fàbrica de Gelats, an ice cream parlor in Sóller that stands out for having one of the best orange ice creams in the country, according to National Geographic Spain. Have a tangy scoop of ice cream among the picturesque streets of Sóller and the views of the mountains in the distance. You will have free time in Sóller to explore the centre, take photos of the square and the historic wooden electric tram before returning to the hotel.
