In the midst of the debate on the Bases Law, which is expected to be voted on around 9, the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT) announced a mega strike of air, land and maritime transport in rejection of the fiscal package. The measure will be carried out next Monday, May 6.

The measure of force was confirmed by the general secretary of the CATT, Juan Carlos Schmid via his X account. “On May 6 in the morning hours and around noon Activities in air, land, port and maritime transport will be interrupted in rejection of the tax agreement which again sanctions the income tax,” Schmid wrote on his X account (exTwitter).

Then on the radio, the leader clarified that there will be “information assemblies” that will interrupt the normal operation of transportation.

“There will be conflict situations if the fiscal pact once again affects the workers’ pockets,” Schmid warned.

The measure of force on May 6 will be carried out three days before the second general strike convened by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT).

Tax package: what they reject

Within the fiscal package, the Government seeks to collect Income Tax from workers again. If the law is passed, which will be voted on around 9, the non-taxable minimum will go to $1.8 million for single workers and $2.3 million for married workers with two children.

The project also establishes that the updating of personal deductions and rates will be semiannual, except for this year, which will be quarterly. A special deduction is also added that has the objective of exempting the bonus from paying the tax.
